The inevitability of AI and our power in response

With every stage of innovation, there is resistance, hesitance, and fear—none of those facts ever changed the forward march of new-age invention. People said automobiles were a simple trend that would die down. The same was said about the internet. 

We can go back even further to the Industrial Revolution or even the Agricultural Revolution that shifted us from nomadic lifestyles to settled communities. 

AI is similar in the sense that there is great potential and variety in how it will reshape the way we live, work, and communicate.

We can’t put the cat back in the bag, but we can control how we respond to the changes and advancements that come with AI.

We may not be able to control where we’re born, where we grow up, or how tall we grow—but what we always have control over is our response. 

The benefits and risks of engaging with AI

AI is only as destructive as we let it be. In the right hands, it can perform great services. 

We have to learn how to use artificial intelligence to our benefit as much as we can and try to influence the culture and governments to make sure that there are some protections and preventions for the negative side of this technology. 

Not engaging with AI leaves us at a disadvantage and possibly disconnected. Learning how to use AI can be very beneficial to all of us and allow us to do our jobs—whatever we do—in a more effective way. 

Using AI to free up time and strengthen connections

I use AI to free up time to spend with peers, family, and friends, strengthening our connections, while AI does menial tasks that would normally be time-consuming.

What we spend our “extra” time on is just as important as deciding how we’re gaining that time. If we use AI to free us up to do more “stuff,” what are we gaining? What do we earn by going deeper into the rat race with the help of AI? 

If we channel that regained energy into our loved ones, we choose a response that benefits not only ourselves but those around us. And we avoid sinking deeper into the relentless pace of Corporate America.
